For weeks and weeks the Principal’s Tea has been every Friday and everyone has been invited. I had only ever gone twice and had never stayed throughout the entire thing. I thought that it was rather pointless since I could talk to any of the people who went anytime I wanted to, and that a specific day for a couple hours to talk to them while they were all gathered together was no big deal.
On a spur of the moment though, I decided to go. I was in a good mood and I felt like talking to people because I had just recently realized that the vast majority of people are interesting, no matter if they had a few minor traits that bothered me or not. I wanted to hear what people had to say. So I went and I listened. I did not talk much but no big deal, I was there to soak in everything that was happening. I never really know what to say. I feel as if there are too many things I don’t know and I do not want to say something only to realize later that I do not truly believe it. But back to the tea…
I went and I hung out with people. And then there was an announcement that someone would speak about why we have to blog. It was something I was actually curious about so I stayed and listened instead of sneaking off to go do something else.
The speech was very interesting and very well articulated. It was about how the world-wide web affected everyone, whether we were aware of it or not. Everything on the web could be seen by others, including our blogs. There were multiple stories told of how influential some things were and how people could relate. Some sites and blogs were even able to depict what was happening in other peoples’ lives so much that people from across the world would email the authors or the bloggers divulging how much the stories or thoughts had affected them.
All of those stories, memories, and all of those initial realizations were related back to why all of us at the HRC have to blog. Blogging opens up a whole new door to reality and it brings people together in a way that would not ever happen because some people would never meet face to face. It changes peoples’ perspectives and from that it creates new ways to think about things and it creates new things to talk about.
